The Thing That Turned My Friday Into A Monday

Tyler has too much freedom.

We were outside Friday after taking Travis to school, hauling bags of "green waste" to the curb for the recycling truck to pick up. Our neighbor came over to chat, and Tyler was being relatively good (I thought). Towards the end of our visit, Tyler informs me, "I moved da seat, Mommy."

Translation: I've been in your car and pushed every button I could find; good luck getting everything back the way you like it, okay?

However, it was MUCH WORSE than that.

He locked the car. With BOTH sets of keys in it. While I was standing RIGHT THERE.

I had my "regular" keys in my purse in the front seat, and the "spares" on the floor where I had left them last week. Locked. In the car. With my purse. And my wallet. And gymnastics starting in 10 minutes.

After the initial freak-out, my next door neighbor drove by and I told him the situation, ending with the "lucky me, I get to call AAA now". He tossed me the keys to his truck - a HUGE monster of a 4x4 diesel. Yeah, going from a granny car to that monstrosity was quite entertaining, I'm sure.

We made it to gymnastics and back, and AAA was called after talking to Scott and getting our account number. They were out in 45 minutes and I was back in business.

Doors are now officially locked on my car. Spare key is now inside. I've baked banana bread for the neighbor and returned his key.

And I think I'm buying a leash for my son.

Ah yes, I have often felt like I needed a leash for a kid or two. One year, I felt like getting leashes for all of my 20 preschoolers. It got so bad that we couldn't even go for walks anymore because they would take off into the street!
