Should I Stay Or Should I Go?

Oh, Blogger. I loved you when.

I've been with Blogger for over 3 years now. THREE YEARS. Three years of dealing with pictures that sometimes upload (and sometimes don't), freaky html coding, and disappearing posts and/or comments. On one hand, I absolutely love that all my "stuff" is in one place, one singular location where I can neatly point and say, "Hey, that's mine!" On the other hand, I get so frustrated with Blogger that I can barely stand to come here sometimes - the system is down, maintenance is being done, codes aren't working...it goes on and on.

Moving my site has never been something I've considered because, quite frankly, I have no idea how I'd move these almost 2,000 posts I have without going through them individually and doing it. Then there's that whole privacy thing...what if I write something for "just" my family, not for the Internets to see, or vice versa? Or, what if I just want to write something for the sake of writing it down, a secret for only me? Is that even possible?

Then, I came across a new realm of blogging: http://www.thoughts.com/. It truly embraces the idea of journal-blogging. You can decide who reads each individual post. There's no bandwidth limit, and I could still upload photos and videos. Sounds VERY intriguing. I can see where blogging could take on a whole new meaning, with the individualized posting system.

I'm a lazy chicken, though. It will take a lot of motivation for me to make the Big Switch. So, you guys get over there and check out what makes blogging over there so much better and then let me know, okay?

Okay.

Have you looked at wordpress.com too? I know wordpress has a password protect option. Just a thought.

The link's not working for me... but, I can tell you, I made a switch from blogger almost a year ago. I was on a self hosted site which was susceptible to hacking and problems I didn't know how to deal with. Now I'm on wordpress.com and it has it's downfalls too, like you can't put html stuff in the sidebar. It doesn't seem to have the picture problems or disappearing posts though. The other thing is, if you've built up a decent sized community, you have to let all of them know you've moved, which can be a hassle.

The only bad thing that I can think of is that it's in beta mode right now. Me, personally, I would wait until the full, perfected version comes up before I would trust 2,000 posts, pictures and videos to another site. I have been on Blogger for awhile now and while it frustrates me at times, I, too, am too lazy to move. That and I'm a creature of routine, to an extent.

hmm...I haven't checked it out. Cause I'm lazy. I know some blogs that used to be on blogger and moved to Wordpress I can't read because you have to have an account. Granted it doesn't take long, but I hate having to delete even more e-mails from my inbox because of one more stupid subscription.

I'm not saying moving your blog is a bad idea, or that it's stupid, I'm just wondering if you have to have an account to read stuff on Thoughts.

Just my 2 cents though.
