Hey Now, You're An All-Star

NB Gray - 8 year old division 2008

We had our picture taken for the paper the other evening. Totally the highlight of the month for these kids. (Travis is the one in the Rockies uniform on the right.)

The head coach is in back on the left. I have no idea who the coach is in the middle, and the one on the right (behind Travis) is the one who yells. A lot. Enough to make you want to not love baseball anymore.

Our last coach was a yeller. BUT, he'd follow it up with some encouragement and praise...and that made a HUGE difference. This guy? Notsomuch. We'll see how he acts in a game.

Speaking of, our first tournament game is Tuesday at 7!!!

We've seen our share of yelling coaches. Sometimes it was loud encouragement, sometimes it was condescending. A bad coach can be a deal breaker for a kid and their love of a sport. I wish more of the coaches would keep that in mind.

We have a yeller in our league. He isn't the coach of my kid, but he is annoying to every one at the ballpark. He made a kid run laps around the field the other night after the game for not hustling to his position. The kid played third base which is six feet from the dugout door!
He told the pitcher the other night to just toss the ball up there that kid will swing at anything. Can you believe city rec gets complaints about him?
