Flylady (Be Gone!)
Way back in another lifetime, I gave the Almighty flylady the old college try. I followed her schedule, I invested in a feather duster, I shined my sink. And I HATED EVERY LAST MINUTE OF IT!However, living in filth is not my idea of fun, either. Something had to be done.
What I now do is the anti-flylady - I put everything into a day (more or less).
It all starts Thursday afternoon. Why Thursday? Why, that's the last day of my preschool job each week! It could be Friday. Or Saturday. Or Monday. But, for me, it's Thursday. That's when I whip out my trusty Pampered Chef timer and set it for 15 minutes. Armed with my meager cleaning supplies, I pounce into a room of my house (usually my master bedroom closet because it IS a room, literally) and clean clean clean. This includes filing papers (our filing cabinet is in there), organizing the shelves, sweeping (tile floor), and those kinds of things. When the timer goes off, though, I'm done. I reset the sucker for another 15 minutes and hit another area of the house.
I usually get in about 30-45 mintues of cleaning on Thursday night. And, I start the laundry because I am really, really bad about forgetting it. I tried the whole "do a load or two a day" deal, but I failed miserably. Do you know how many times I had to rewash stuff because I forgot it was in the washer? Yuck.
When Friday morning rolls around, I hit the ground running. Setting my timer, working from room to room, finishing the laundry, the dishes, whatever. And by noon, I'm done!
Clean house for the weekend.
That's what works for me!

I tried fly-lady too. I did well for about 2 months, but then lost the habit. Maybe I should try it your way....I gotta do something!
I haven't tried fly lady, but I like your idea. I need to start doing that too.

I try to be efficient and do laundry and chores/errands at the same time. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve run around the corner and forgotten about the last load I started…
I was just thinking about doing this. I'm sure that Flylady is nice and all, and I'm glad it works for some people, but progress is ssssssooooooooo ssssslllllooooowwwwwwww......
I have no patience for anything else, so I shouldn't be surprised that I have no patience for this either.
Never thought to use the timer to get myself moving from one thing to another though. Genius. :)

I'm currently failing miserably with flylady. I think I'll try this way and not feel bad about it!
I am another "fallen of the wagon ex-flylady". I still use my 15 minute time though, to keep me focused and motivated to finish a task/room. Most other things have gone, but not the 15 minutes!
I'm a FLYbaby... Well, at this point I guess I'm a FLY Toddler... But anyway... just wanted to point out that you are FLYing! Marla is the first to say that you should adapt the system to what works for you. and FLYing isn't about a clean house, it's about loving yourself, and your family, and changing your attitude. Sounds to me like you've done a good job of figuring out what works for you and your house. Awesome!
I've gotta give your idea a try. I usually spend an entire Saturday or Sunday cleaning and doing laundry. Then I've spent half of my weekend NOT enjoying my weekend. Maybe if I did the 45 minute thing a few times each weeknight, I'd have more free time on the weekends.
Ugh...I feel ya!
FlyLady is way too involved for me.
:)
I've visited flylady a few times. Just visited.
Hmmmm, 15-minutes on the timer. Interesting. My method just usually consists of cleaning when I'm on the verge of raving mad over the filth.
15 minutes is brilliant. Flylady just hurt my feelings too much! Thanks!
I do a room at the time, but I do that room until it's totally clean and tidy to my satisfaction. If I only get one room done in an evening, then so be it - the next night/day I target a different room. But I can get the whole house clean over the course of a few days/evenings, and then I'm done for a few weeks! (Except for spot vacuuming because of my long-haired, constantly shedding cat.)
I always wondered if the flylady will be willing to come to my house to do my cleaning ... lol
