Put It On A Stick And They'll Eat ANYTHING

I have (sort of) solved the food woes at our house. Our food issues are that if it isn't battered, fried or bad for you, we don't want to eat it. Beans? Ew! Broccoli? Yuck! Corn? No way! Salad? Poison!
Okay, that's the boys. Not me or Scott...haha.

Anyway, I have found a way around some of their picky eating choices. And my only tools are shish kebab skewers and toothpicks.

I can almost guarantee that an entire plate will be cleared - veggies and all - if I simply stab everything with a toothpick or put it on a skewer. Simply changing the way something looks or is presented changes the way my kids see something. It is something new and different. Something cool.

So, next time your 8 year old is gagging down the broccoli spears you've set out for him to partake, put 'em all on a few toothpicks and see if that makes a difference.
Melted cheese helps (a little), too.

That's what works for me! Check out other fun ideas at Shannon's Works for me Wednesdays!

In our house just put homemade Ranch dressing on it and they'll eat it.

PS: Broccoli? That's not broccoli~! Those are 'tree's' with snow on them! :)

I've been struggling with my 2 and 4 year olds not wanting to eat anything but chicken nuggets. Thanks for reminding me that presentation can make a huge difference! I am going to try that tonight...

Thanks for the tips. I need all the help I can get in the vegetable department.

In our house, when salad is part of the meal, it's the only thing anyone gets on their plate! When the salad is gone, then the rest of the meal is served and eaten. We work on clearing our plates, but I figure as long as the salad has been finished, I'm not going to gripe if they leave a bit of the rest of the meal. I don't want to encourage over-eating :) But, I'm digging the tooth-pick idea! I'm definitely going to try that with tonight's meal - I'm steaming broccoli and planned to serve some ranch on the side for dipping.

that's a great idea!

We were at some exotic zoo place right outside of Johnson City. The ranch we stayed on was in Stonewall, about 15 miles east of Fredricksburg.

PS: I wasn't kidding about the ranch. Between the three kids they put it on everything from chicken to steak, cheeseburgers to baked potatoes, pizza to scrambled eggs. I swear, put ranch dressing on ANYTHING and they'll eat it! LOL.

PS: Serve fresh veggies (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers) with any meal and provide ranch dressing for dipping... they'll eat some veggies! LOL.

Ooh! Good idea! Fun with sticks, because even moms get bored with the same old stuff.

Good idea! I have trouble getting both Caitlin & Cara to eat veggies. I usually just have them "drink" them thanks to V8 Splash. I will have to try the skewers idea, I bet that would work. I guess deep frying the veggies would be beside the point?
